Florida International Terminal (FIT) earns Green Marine Level 1 Certification

The recognition marks a significant step in FIT’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Florida International Terminal (FIT), a port terminal controlled by SAAM Terminals, has achieved Level 1 certification under the Green Marine program, thanks to the progress made throughout 2024. This milestone marks FIT’s transition from a registered participant in 2023 to a company officially accredited for its environmental performance.
Green Marine is the leading voluntary environmental certification program for the North American maritime industry. The industry itself created it to encourage sustainable practices that go beyond regulatory requirements through the adoption of concrete, measurable, and verifiable actions. . The program addresses key areas including biodiversity protection, air, water, and soil quality, waste management, emissions quantification, and community engagement.
“This achievement is the result of our entire team’s commitment to a more responsible port operation, aligned with the environmental challenges of our industry. Being part of Green Marine motivates us to improve continuously,” said Eduardo Cabrera, FIT’s Senior Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Manager, who received the certification during the GreenTech 2025 conference.
Among FIT’s recognized advancements were diligent monitoring of all pertinent regulations, proactive measures to reduce community exposure and mitigate potential adverse impacts from our operations, sustaining high-quality relationships with our community stakeholders, implementation of comprehensive environmental initiatives, prevention of spills and leaks of pollutants into the environment and enhancement of waste diversion efforts from our operations.
Green Marine’s certification system is based on five levels reflecting the degree of compliance with environmental indicators. Level 1, attained by FIT, recognizes organizations that fully comply with current environmental regulations. In the areas of spill prevention and stormwater management, FIT achieved Level 2, distinguishing itself by implementing additional best practices beyond compliance. The higher levels require continuous improvement, culminating in environmental excellence and leadership at Level 5.
