The San Antonio and San Vicente terminals, operated jointly by SAAM Terminals and SSA Marine, have been recognized for their active role in promoting sustainable logistics, specifically for encouraging efficient practices such as idling control in tractor-trailers.

SAAM Terminals highlighted that its port terminals—San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) and San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI)—have once again been recognized by the Giro Limpio program for their commitment to idling control, which contributes to reducing their carbon footprint.

“We are proud to receive this new recognition from Giro Limpio for both STI and SVTI. It reflects the commitment of our teams and SAAM Terminals’ vision to lead the port industry with environmental responsibility”, said Cristina Schmidt, VP of Sustainability and Communications at SAAM Terminals.

“Maintaining this distinction for several consecutive years shows that our strategies to increase efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint are paying off—and it motivates us to keep innovating in sustainability,” she added.

Among the initiatives implemented to achieve this goal is a comprehensive training campaign targeting employees, with a focus on reducing equipment idling time. Idling refers to periods when a vehicle’s engine is running while not in motion, often for extended durations. This program has empowered teams to adopt more mindful and responsible operational practices. The use of GPS with telemetry has also been crucial in monitoring equipment performance in real- time. This technology enables the identification of areas for improvement, helping ensure more efficient operations with a lower environmental impact.

Giro Limpio is a voluntary and free national program managed by the Chilean Energy Sustainability Agency and funded by the Ministry of Energy. It aims to certify and recognize the efforts of freight transport companies in the areas of sustainability and energy efficiency.
